Interesting antedatings

Revision of the entries in the December 2004 OED Online update has revealed an earlier origin than previously known for many words, including:

• oust (antedated to 1420 from 1588)
• outdoors (a1729 from 1817)
• outer space (1842 from 1879)
• outflow (verb, Old English from c1580)
• ovenproof (1922 from 1939–40)
• overachiever (1939 from 1953)
• overcompensation (1839 from 1917)
