Finding quotations from a specified work

Aim: to search for quotations from King Lear

  1. Open the Full Text search panel by clicking [Show Simple Search form].

  2. Type lear into the input box.

  3. Click on the list box (showing full text by default) and choose quotation work as your text area. This confines your search to works cited in quotation text.

  4. Click [Perform Full Text search] to start the search.

  5. The results list is displayed.

  6. To go to the top of any entry, click its name (in the left-hand column). To go to the first match in any entry, click the matching term (in the right-hand column).

The list of Work title abbreviations or the page on searching for abbreviated words will often help you to find the best search term for your purposes. There are separate lists for Shakespearean Plays and Books of the Bible. The use of wildcards will also help you to find differently abbreviated forms of the same word.
